White Bread

1/2 cup milk
3 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp butter
1 1/2 cup warm water
2 scant tbsp yeast (2 packets)
5-6 cups flour

1. Put the milk, sugar and butter in a small saucepan.
2. Heat over low heat until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves.  Then cool to lukewarm.
3. While the milk is cooling, dissolve the yeast in the warm water in a warmed mixer bowl.
4. Add the milk mixture to the yeast and 4 1/2 cups of the flour and the salt.
5. Mix everything together (if you're using a kitchenaid use the hook attachment on speed 2).
6. Mix for about a minute and then start adding flour, as needed, 1/2 cup at a time.  Mix and knead the dough until a ball forms.
7. Put the dough in a greased bowl and turn it to grease the top.
8. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for about an hour, until it doubles in size.
9. Punch the dough down, divide in half, form into loafs and put the dough in greased bread pans.  Let it rise again for 30 mins to an hour until they double in size again.
10. When doubled, bake at 400 for 20-30 minutes until golden brown.
11.Remove from the pans and let it cool.
